Gratitude

I meant to post this last week but in organizing for a weekend yard sale it sort of fell by the wayside. Never the less here goes five things to be grateful for from last week:

1. A long phone call with my brother Charlie. He makes me giggle and scratch my head a lot, both of which are good!

2. Giant Zucchini. My cousin Julia grew this giant zucchini in her garden and I was able to turn it into what would have been delicious zucchini bread but I under cooked it a little. Note to self invest in some toothpicks!

3. Aunt Ruth's mini-sewing class. My Aunt Ruth was gracious enough to come over last week and help me understand my sewing machine. She also gave great tips on tools of the trade that I needed in my sewing box (that being one of them, invest in a good sewing box!)

4. Organette posted quote from Goethe: "Do not hurry. Do not rest." Recited this in my head whenever I felt rushed seemed to help me slow down a bit. Although I might revise Goethe if I may be so bold and say one does need a little rest from time to time.

5. Our beautiful backyard and freshly painted and refurbished deck. (I promise to post a better picture of our deck soon.) Sitting out in my blue chair on the deck in the mornings is a very relaxing way to start the mornings. Laying out on the blanket in the yard with a few books. Life is good!

For our bathroom?

These pressed leaf clippings look like fun, easy DIY art perfect for our new remodeled master bath! We certainly have a lot of beautiful ferns in our backyard that I could use to make them.

Living in Lusciousness

So often I find myself living in lack. Lack of money, lack of the material goods I think I need, lack of space to put all my stuff, lack, lack, lack. The truth is this is an illusion. I am not living in lack but living in an overflowing cup of abundance, supplied with unending love and affection. I am abundantly taken care of. Never have I gone hungry nor without shelter. Abundance flows around me in my beautiful home, the peaceful retreat of my backyard. There the birds sing their morning songs and the light, oh the magical morning light! How it dances between the trees flushing green to gold.

"I am bountifully supplied from Divine Substance." The Spirit has filled my life with all I need and then some. I am living in lusciousness not lack. Full abundance.

The Yoga of Trees

Rooted in earthly wisdom,
bending, reaching, extending
to find the perfect light.
They sway in the breeze,
dancing to His breath.

Sewing dreams

My new favorite thing is to look through the Purl Bee website and dream of all the little things I can sew! I could literally spend hours browsing through Molly's Stketchbook posts. There are so many great ideas and tutorials for different sewing projects. Once I get brave enough, (and have enough money to buy the fabric!) I'm going to try and tackle this project.

French Dirt: The Story of a Garden in the South of France

I just finished French Dirt: The Story of a Garden in the South of France by Richard Goodman. It is a lovely little book about gardening, human relationships and our connection to the earth. Goodman use of simple prose makes this book easily accessible. Valuable life lessons are tucked into his luscious stories of melon seeds, his early childhood memories of gardening, or his zealousness at planting.

Some that struck me:

"Why would I ever deny myself my precious mistakes?"

"But I learned something more important from him...that there is a difference in nature between what grows purely wild and what has been tamed. And that gardening is a collaboration."

"He and I had now a failure in common. Mine stung. His damaged. But the point - what he showed me - was to accept it quietly. With nature, it was nothing personal."

three years

Photography by Dave Russell

What a blessed life to be able to lean on this man's shoulder, cuddle into his neck and know that I am loved, safe, home.

Happy Anniversary Patrick! I love you.
